HempBean is a table made from Strumber Hemp, combining minimalist design with a deep respect for the environment. The project was created as part of the ReHemptation collection in collaboration with Husarska Design Studio. The raw aesthetic of the Strumber Hemp material is showcased here in a simple yet elegant way, using a minimal amount of material to further emphasize its sustainable character. The smooth surface highlights the natural beauty of hemp fibers, merging functionality with timeless style.

Designing Responsibly: From Concept to Conscious Materiality

Challenge

HempBean was created to explore how a simple table can express both material honesty and environmental awareness. The goal was to design a piece that:

  • celebrates the natural texture and tone of hemp-based wood,
  • uses the smallest possible amount of material without compromising stability,
  • is also sustainable in transport due to its unique flat-pack design.

Material & Sustainability

The table is made from Strumber Hemp, a plant-based material developed from renewable hemp fibers that absorb CO₂ and reduce deforestation. By using only what is necessary, the design follows a low-impact, zero-waste philosophy. Every surface and edge of HempBean reveals the raw beauty of hemp’s fiber structure, proving that ecological responsibility and refined aesthetics can coexist.

Impact

Form & Manufacturing

HempBean was designed with sustainability and efficiency at its core. The entire table is cut from a single sheet of Strumber Hemp, which minimizes production waste and maximizes the use of material. This approach not only embodies the principles of circular design but also allows the furniture to be produced as a flat-pack, making it lightweight and easy to transport while maintaining durability. The assembly process is simple and intuitive, emphasizing smart design over excess complexity.

Exhibitions & Encounters

HempBean has been presented at 4 Design Days 2025, the Warsaw Home 2025 fair, and during the 33rd Final of the Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity (WOŚP), where it took part in a charity auction. At each of these events, the table drew attention for its elegant simplicity and its story of transforming renewable hemp fibers into functional, sustainable design.

Quotes about HempBean

“We wanted HempBean to show how design can be smart — not by adding, but by reducing.”

“Cutting the whole table from a single sheet was both a technical and ecological challenge. Every millimeter of material had to make sense.”

“Flat-pack isn’t just a logistic feature here — it’s a philosophy. Less volume means less transport impact and more responsibility.”

“HempBean is proof that sustainability can be elegant. You can feel the honesty of the material, and that’s what makes it timeless.”
