Material from Annual Plants at the Heart of the Polish Pavilion

From April to October 2025, the World Expo 2025 took place in Osaka — one of the largest economic and cultural events in the world. For six months, visitors from around the globe could see how innovation and tradition intertwine in architecture, art, and new technologies. Strumber, a material made from annual plants, was presented in the Polish Pavilion as part of the permanent exhibition Plantation of Ideas. It was a great honor for us — our material became part of a story about sustainable development, technology, and responsible use of resources.

Plantation of Ideas – A Space for Dialogue About the Future

Poland’s main theme at the World Expo 2025 in Osaka was “Heritage That Drives the Future.” The Plantation of Ideas was the economic section of the Polish Pavilion’s permanent exhibition, showcasing examples of Polish ideas that redefine how we use resources — focusing on a circular economy and companies that leverage digital technologies to drive transformation and improve efficiency across different areas of life. Strumber Flax and Strumber Hemp, featured in this exhibition, were available to thousands of visitors — architects, designers, entrepreneurs, and business delegations. For many professionals from the furniture and interior design industries, this plant-based alternative to wood offered a real solution to the growing scarcity of timber and the urgent need to protect forests.

The Polish Investment and Trade Agency was responsible for the development and implementation of Poland’s participation concept at Expo 2025 in Osaka.

Polish-Japanese Export Forum

In May 2025, the Polish-Japanese Export Forum took place in Osaka, bringing together hundreds of business, government, and media representatives from both countries. Our company was represented by Jadwiga Husarska-Sobina, who presented the potential of Strumber and discussed the development of plant-based materials. The conversations focused on quality, durability, and respect for nature — values shared by both Polish and Japanese approaches to design. The Forum provided an excellent opportunity to build international relations and strengthen dialogue on sustainable production.

Economic Mission

Our presence in Japan was made possible thanks to funding from the project “Economic Marketing of the Lubelskie Voivodeship III.” The trip enabled in-person meetings, showroom visits, and discussions with local companies interested in low-impact materials. Participation in the Forum helped strengthen business ties and foster cooperation between Poland and Japan.

World Expolympics Awards

At the end of September, the winners of the World Expolympics — a competition honoring outstanding achievements in experience design at Expo — were announced. Poland received two prestigious awards: bronze in the Best Medium Pavilion category and silver in the Best Exhibition / Display category for the Plantation of Ideas installation. We are proud that Strumber was part of this award-winning project. It proves that the materials of the future are attracting attention not only in Europe but also in one of the world’s most demanding markets.

Six Months at Expo 2025

Expo 2025 concluded on October 13, 2025. Over six months, hundreds of thousands of visitors had the opportunity to see how nature can inspire technological progress and how annual plants can become a genuine alternative to wood. For us, it was an exceptional opportunity to present Strumber in the context of global trends. The trip to Japan resulted in valuable new contacts that may contribute to the development of international cooperation in the near future.
